HelchPOS vs me&u: the guest experience, and everything behind it

me&u is the QR ordering product we deliberately copy — and it has no POS, kitchen screen or stock system. What that means when choosing one for a food hall.

We should declare something first: me&u is the product our QR ordering is modelled on. Their guest flow is the best in this market and we have said so internally for a year. If the pages look familiar, that is not an accident.

The difference is what sits behind the phone. me&u is a guest-experience platform that integrates with a POS. HelchPOS is the POS, the kitchen screen and the stock system, with the guest experience on top.

Where me&u is ahead

  • Payments in the guest flow, with everything that follows.
  • Whole categories we do not have: reservations with shift briefs, a voice AI that answers the phone, a CRM and marketing suite, gift cards sold online, hotel ordering.
  • Personalisation. Their recommendations are per guest, trained on their own scale of order data. Ours is an upsell engine that offers the five most-ordered non-mains for what is in the basket — useful, and not the same thing.
  • Scale and ecosystem. Six thousand locations, 115+ integrations, customers like Merivale and Boxpark. We have one food hall and a handful of integrations.

Where HelchPOS is ahead

  • It is also the till. me&u has no POS, no kitchen display, no stock control and no staff scheduling. A food hall running me&u still buys a till system and a stock system; with us that is one thing, one menu, one set of numbers.
  • One basket across kitchens is level — it is the crux of both products — but ours ends in ordinary per-vendor orders that every report, refund and stock movement already understands.
  • Cost. The software is free and there is no per-location licence.

Who should choose which

A restaurant group with an existing POS it likes, wanting the best guest ordering experience available and willing to pay for it, should look hard at me&u. We would not pretend to beat their guest layer on polish.

A food hall choosing its whole system — the till at the counter, the screen in the kitchen, the stock behind it and the QR code on the table — is choosing something me&u does not sell.

Ours, plainly: no integrated payments, no delivery adapter proven against a live restaurant, no text message ever sent, and one venue's worth of proof. Printing was on this list when we wrote it; since 27 August 2026 a Star TSP143IV at a live venue prints dockets over CloudPRNT, and the Epson and label-printer paths are still unproven.
